RAWALPINDI: The Special Court of Anti-Terrorism in Rawalpindi has ordered the confiscation of Aleema Khanum bail bonds worth Rs100,000 and surety bonds for four vehicles valued at Rs85 lakh, due to her continued absence in hearing of November 26 protest case.
The case against Imran Khan’s siblings was registered at the Sadiqabad police station.
The court has directed the accused to submit two new surety bonds and two new bail bonds of Rs1 million each. It has also issued a show-cause notice to the accused’s guarantor, Umar Sharif, requiring a reply by October 24. Additionally, the court has issued a show-cause notice to SP Rawal Division and DSP Waris Khan Naeem for contempt of court regarding the arrest and attendance of the accused and has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khanum for the fourth time.
Despite the issuance of three non-bailable arrest warrants during yesterday’s hearing on October 23, Aleema Khanum has not appeared in court, while the other 10 accused named in the case were present. Prosecutor Zaheer Shah represented the prosecution.
The police submitted a report stating that the accused had gone into hiding due to fear of arrest. Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah pointed out that the accused had been present outside Adiala Jail a day earlier and had spoken to the media. In response, the court deemed the police report bogus, remarking that if the accused was in hiding, how could her conversation with the media outside Adiala Jail be broadcast? The court ruled that the police had deceived it.
Expressing strong anger over the police report, the court issued show-cause notices to SP Rawal Division Saad Arshad and DSP Naeem for contempt of court, for failing to produce the accused despite court orders and non-bailable arrest warrants. Both police officers have been summoned in person on October 24.
The court also confiscated surety bonds worth a total of Rs85 lakh for four vehicles—including two Hiace vans and two Coasters—included in the case. Notices have been issued to the owners of the vehicles, questioning why this amount should not be recovered from them. The owners had previously obtained custody of the vehicles from the court. In this regard, the court has ordered the IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and IG Balochistan to seize the vehicles and produce them in court, and adjourned the hearing until October 24.
In a separate case, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has adjourned the hearing of the GHQ attack case against the former PTI chairman, former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and other accused until November 5, without any further action following the attendance of the accused in court. The prosecution stated that witnesses could not appear due to a cricket match, as all witnesses were assigned to match security duties, and requested an adjournment.
The court permitted the accused to leave after marking their attendance and adjourned the hearing until November 5 without further proceedings.
