LAHORE : Body of a newborn baby boy was recovered from Harbanspura canal, sending waves of sorrow and outrage across the community.
The tragic discovery was made by passersby who noticed the tiny body in the canal.
Promptly, they alerted the local police, and rescue services swung into action. Upon receiving the report, personnel from Rescue 1122 arrived at the scene. Skilled divers were deployed, and they managed to pull the infant’s body from the canal.
Initial investigations suggest the heartbreaking possibility that the baby may have been discarded to conceal an unwanted pregnancy, often perceived as a societal "sin."
While police are yet to identify the individual or individuals responsible, the act has reignited public discourse about issues surrounding illegitimacy, societal pressures, and the dire consequences of stigma. “It’s a heartbreaking sight,” said an onlooker who witnessed the body being retrieved.
“How could anyone do this to an innocent child?”
The collective grief was evident among people who gathered near the canal, their expressions mirroring a mix of sadness and frustration at a system that allows such tragedies to persist.
