WASHINGTON: The US on Tuesday called on protesters in Pakistan to remain peaceful and refrain from violent activities. “In Pakistan, as around the world, we support freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association,” the US State Department’s spokesperson, Matthew Miller, said during the daily briefing. “We call on protesters to demonstrate peacefully and refrain from violence,” he said adding, “at the same time we call on Pakistani authorities to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and to ensure respect for Pakistan’s laws and constitution and work to maintain law and order.”
The spokesperson also condemned the deadly attack near Karachi airport last weekend saying that, “we are deeply saddened by the loss of life and injured victims. We extend our heartfelt condolences to those impacted.”
