Hello Ed,

In today’s issue (21 November) I read ‘Life as a teenager’ by Maryam Jahangir Khan and was impressed by how she so comprehensively wrote about the pressures a teenager has to endure. The only problem is there is no solution, as the very fast-paced life we are living makes it impossible for us to slow down for we don’t want to lag behind. Our parents’ expectations are no help, either. I know they mean well but end up doing damage to our happiness because they think they know better and we are not capable of making our own choices. We cannot go back to the pre-social media time so we should understand it. Social media is here to stay and by guiding the young children how to navigate through it, we can protect them. Good job, Maryam. Keep writing!

Protect endangered species

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the declining wildlife in Balochistan due to excessive hunting. The region’s ecosystem is under serious threat, and urgent action is needed to protect endangered species. Hunting has caused a significant drop in wildlife populations, disturbing the natural balance. I respectfully request the authorities to impose a strict ban on hunting in the region to preserve Balochistan’s rich biodiversity. Such a ban would help safeguard the province’s natural heritage and ensure the long-term conservation of its unique wildlife.

Importance of climate change awareness

Dear Editor,

Global temperatures are rising at a worrying pace because of unchecked industrial activity, mass production, and the way we continue to use resources without thinking about the consequences. Before the Industrial Revolution, the Earth’s temperature stayed fairly stable and CO2 levels hardly changed. Today, CO2 concentrations have crossed 400 ppm, the highest in more than three million years, and the effects are clear for all to see.

Our climate is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Glaciers are melting, extreme weather is getting stronger, and dangerous heatwaves are happening more often. These changes do not only threaten human lives but also damage our oceans, which are growing warmer and more acidic, making them unliveable for many marine species.

We urgently need a proper climate change awareness campaign. The awareness campaign is important because it will encourage people to use less plastic, reduce fossil-fuel consumption, cut carbon emissions, save energy, and choose cleaner transport options. But simply informing people will not be enough. We need strong environmental policies, strict emissions controls, and practical sustainability measures across the country if we want to protect our planet for the generations that come after us.
