Mahira and Fawad’s Neelofar Finally Gets a Release Date and First Look

After years of waiting, it has finally happened. Actors Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan are reuniting in the upcoming film Neelofar, set to release worldwide next month. Written and directed by Ammar Rasool, the romantic drama adds another project to their shared screen history. The two last appeared together in The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022), which earned both critical acclaim and box office success.

Since then, Mahira Khan has starred in the 2023 mini-series Razia and Love Guru (2025) opposite Humayun Saeed. Fawad Khan has featured in Money Back Guarantee (2023), Barzakh (streaming on Zee5/Zindagi) and the Indian production Abir Gulaal (2025). He currently serves as a judge on Pakistan Idol Season 2, which began earlier this month on Geo TV and other networks. Both actors will also star in Pakistan’s first Netflix original, Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, alongside Sanam Saeed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Amir and Maya Ali. The streaming date for the series has yet to be announced.

The first official poster of Neelofar, shared as a video on social media by both actors, opens with Fawad’s voice saying, “Neelofar naam hai uska,” meaning “Her name is Neelofar.” The caption reads, “Jis mulaqat ka dil se intezar hai wo November 28 ko ho ge.” Clearly, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan know how eager audiences are to see them together, and they are building on the chemistry that first drew attention many years ago. It propelled them into a different stratosphere of stardom rarely seen in recent times.

Their reunion in Neelofar is supported by a strong cast including Madiha Imam, Sarwat Gilani, Atiqa Odho, Behroze Sabzwari, Gohar Rasheed, Faisal Qureshi and Samiya Mumtaz. Fawad Khan and Hassaan Khalid are Neelofar’s executive producers, while the film is produced by Usaf Shariq with a background score by Zeeshan (Vicky) Haider.

A short teaser was also released, showing Mahira and Fawad sharing moments worth cherishing. In one scene, Fawad’s character ties a scarf over his eyes and dances alone. The imagery hints at the film’s focus on love, longing and perception. The teaser closes on a melancholic note, suggesting an emotional story rather than one fuelled by action, as was the case with The Legend of Maula Jatt.

During an interview with Instep in 2022, Fawad Khan explained that although he was starring in The Legend of Maula Jatt with Mahira Khan, the film’s focus was not on them as a couple nor was it a tale of pure romance. Neelofar, on the other hand, stands in contrast as a story centred entirely on their romance.

Filming for Neelofar was completed in 2020, but delays, including those caused by the pandemic, postponed its release. The teaser release has reignited public interest and created momentum for the film’s return to cinemas.

According to IMDb, Mahira plays Neelofar, a visually impaired woman, while Fawad portrays a writer. The plot follows their emotional connection and is described as a soulful and character-driven love story that explores nostalgia and affection with a tone that is both realistic and poetic.

Neelofar also represents a reunion built on shared growth. Both actors have moved through fame, acclaim and professional change since their first collaboration. Their return brings a story that feels more mature and introspective. Mahira has spoken about her belief in sincerity and loyalty in relationships. “I’m old-fashioned. I believe in loyalty and commitment. You choose that person every day,” she said. Her words echo the film’s themes of love and loyalty.

Neelofar marks a return to old-school romance that values strength over spectacle. The pairing of Mahira and Fawad continues to draw interest because of their natural on-screen chemistry. With the release approaching, the film serves as a continuation of their partnership on-screen and respect as actors.
