PESHAWAR: “Ideological” workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) on Monday demanded intra-party elections and organisational reforms in the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, PMLN Central Deputy Secretary for Information and leader of the Muslim League Lawyers Forum, Saleem Shah Hoti, along with Youth Social Media President Muhammad Alam Sharif and other party leaders, alleged that the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was under the control of the “Shangla group” led by Amir Muqam.
They claimed that the current leadership was favouring relatives and close associates, leaving committed party workers disillusioned and weakening the party’s organisational structure in the province.
The leaders demanded the dissolution of the existing provincial organisation and the formation of new organising bodies. They called for the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be divided into different organisational zones under an effective administrative system and urged the central leadership to hold intra-party elections at the earliest.
Saleem Shah Hoti warned that if the central leadership failed to address their concerns within two weeks, they would approach the Election Commission of Pakistan for the holding of intra-party elections.
