ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has said political disputes should always be resolved through dialogue, stressing that coercion, violence and confrontation have no place in democratic politics.

“Any individual or group creating a law and order situation should be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said in a statement while referring to the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He clarified that the AJK government did not have the authority to declare any organisation proscribed, adding that the decision to proscribe the Joint Awami Action Committee was made by the AJK Supreme Court after a reference was filed.

“The government, merely implemented the court’s ruling,” he said and urged the JAAC to adopt the democratic path by forming a political party and participating in elections. He maintained that all political and public issues should be resolved through parliament and the democratic process.

Referring to the prevailing security situation, he said law and order deteriorated in some districts of AJK and urged citizens to pursue their demands peacefully. He called on the public to remain vigilant against elements promoting violence under the guise of politics. He said his party’s leadership some time back had proposed postponing AJK elections for a limited period in view of the prevailing security concerns and elections should be held once the law and order situation improves.
