PARACHINAR: Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader Shabbir Sajidi on Monday flayed the prolonged suspension of 3G and 4G services and the repeated shutdown of mobile networks and Internet services in Kurram district.
In a statement, Sajidi said that mobile phone services remained suspended from the 6th to the 11th of Muharram and were again shut down on the 13th of Muharram. He added that Internet services were also suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, while intermittent internet disruption continued to affect residents on a regular basis.
According to him, the continued disruption of communication services had severely impacted students, banking operations and nearly every aspect of daily life. He said the residents were facing serious difficulties in maintaining contact with relatives, businesses and essential services.
Sajidi also said that 3G and 4G services had remained suspended in the district for nearly two years. He also pointed out that the main highway serving the area remained closed for an extended period, creating multiple hardships for local communities.
The MWM leader said that there were numerous effective methods available to combat terrorism and maintain security without imposing blanket restrictions on communication and transportation.
He urged the authorities to avoid prolonged closures of mobile and internet services as well as road blockades, stressing that such measures placed an unnecessary burden on ordinary citizens and disrupted education, commerce and daily life.
