PESHAWAR: The Association of Private Schools Hayatabad on Monday urged the provincial government to direct the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to extend the July 15, 2026 deadline for the restoration of 171 plots whose leases/allotments were cancelled over change-of-land-use issues until a fair, practical and mutually agreed solution is reached.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, association president Irfanuddin, accompanied by general secretary Seema Jamil, HOPES provincial president Aqeel Razzaq, NEC chairman Nazar Hussain, PEN vice-president and elected PSRA member Fazlullah Dawoodzai, along with other office-bearers, demanded an end to what they described as a conspiracy against 40 private educational institutions in Hayatabad.
He called upon the provincial government to constitute a committee comprising all stakeholders to resolve the issue of private educational institutions in Hayatabad on the pattern of the settlement reached for University Town.
The association chief warned that failure to resolve the matter could lead to the closure of several educational institutions, adversely affecting the education of thousands of students and putting the ongoing academic year at risk. He feared that parents, teachers and other stakeholders would also face serious difficulties.
He stressed that extending the deadline was essential to safeguard students’ interests and ensure continuity of education until an acceptable solution was found.HOPES provincial president Aqeel Razzaq said that all educational institutions in Hayatabad were duly registered with the Peshawar education board and had been serving the educational needs of local residents for years.
“In a situation where nearly five million children are already out of school, closing educational institutions merely on the basis of change of land use would deprive thousands more children of their right to education,” he said.
