LAHORE : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem has commended the police force for ensuring effective and comprehensive security arrangements during Ashura across the province.
In a statement, the IGP said that Punjab Police provided foolproof security to participants of Majalis and processions, ensuring peace and orderly conduct of religious observances. He said the overall situation remained peaceful in Lahore as well as other districts of the province.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the IGP appreciated the performance of the CCPO Lahore, Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) across Punjab. He said the successful conduct of Ashura reflected strong coordination between all field formations.
He noted that the Chief Minister Punjab, provincial ministers, advisers and local representatives provided effective guidance regarding security arrangements, while Safe City projects enabled real-time monitoring of processions and majalis across multiple districts.
The IGP said Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Traffic Police and all operational units performed their duties with dedication. He also acknowledged the cooperation of the Pakistan Army and Rangers in maintaining security during Ashura. He expressed gratitude to citizens, religious scholars, institutions and media for their support.
He directed police officers and personnel to continue performing duties with the same spirit of professionalism, vigilance and public service to ensure safety of lives and property and maintain law and order.
On Ashura, the IGP personally visited key procession routes in Lahore, including Mochi Gate, Nisar Haveli and Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah, and reviewed security arrangements along the central procession route of Shabeeh Zuljinah.
He was briefed by senior officers on security arrangements and met deployed personnel, directing them to remain alert. He also met organisers of Majalis, members of peace committees and local notables to review arrangements.
Later, he visited the Central Police Office control and monitoring room, where he reviewed live surveillance of processions and Majalis across Lahore and other districts through Safe City cameras.
AIG Operations Zahid Nawaz Marwat briefed the IGP on security arrangements, while Additional IG Operations M Ali Nekokara, AIG Logistics Faisal Shahzad, AIG Admin and Security Qazi Farooq Sultan and other senior officers were present.
The IGP directed that continuous real-time monitoring of all major processions and gatherings be ensured. He said around 100,000 police personnel were deployed across Punjab on Ashura.
According to official data, 2,732 processions and 2,567 majalis were held across the province, including 45 processions and 231 majalis in Lahore, all of which concluded peacefully under strict security arrangements.
