PESHAWAR: Police said on Thursday that all three suspects accused of gang-raping a young girl from a seminary had been arrested.
The madrassa student was allegedly gang-raped in the Badaber area on the outskirts of the provincial capital, with police registering the first information report (FIR) nearly 35 days after the incident.
According to police, the persons who had facilitated a local jirga between the suspects and the victim’s father were taken into custody as well.The alleged gang-rape incident occurred months ago. A legal action was initiated against the accused after the FIR was registered at Badaber Police Station.
Investigators told Geo News that after the incident, a jirga was convened involving the suspects and the victim’s father.During the local jirga, it was reportedly decided that the principal accused would marry the victim. The jirga also decided that a monetary payment would be made to the victim’s father.Police stated that further investigations were underway and that the case was being examined from multiple angles.
