KP govt measures for journalists’ welfare hailed

MARDAN: The Mardan Union of Journalists (MUJ) has termed the recent announcements made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for the welfare of journalists and press clubs as a welcome, positive and historic development.

A meeting of the MUJ was held under the chairmanship of its president Muhammad Riaz Mayar. vice-president Shah Hussain, general secretary Bin Yameen, joint secretary Arshad Khan, and other members attended the meeting. Mayar welcomed the government’s initiatives and said that these decisions are an important step towards resolving the long-standing problems of journalists and their professional and economic betterment.

He said the decision of Provincial Information Minister Shafiullah Jan to introduce a uniform constitution and policy for all press clubs of KP would not only improve administrative and organizational matters but also help in resolving legal and administrative problems faced by press clubs of different districts. He said the implementation of uniform laws and regulations would discourage monopoly, personal conduct and undemocratic behavior in some places while promoting transparency, accountability and democratic traditions.
