ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday maintained a show-cause notice issued to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail in a bail petition filed on medical grounds by accused Ahmad Aziz, citing the lack of adequate medical treatment facilities in prison.

A division bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Asif heard the case .

During the hearing, the accused’s medical report was presented before the court, while the jail superintendent’s report revealed significant details regarding the prisoner’s treatment.

The court was informed that despite doctors recommending on May 14 that the accused be shifted to a hospital, the transfer could not be arranged.

The judge warned that if any harm came to the accused due to the delay in treatment, the jail authorities could be held responsible and even face criminal proceedings.

The court directed the jail administration to obtain an update from the Home Department and inform the court accordingly.

The show-cause notice against the Adiala Jail Superintendent was maintained, while further hearing of the case was adjourned.
