Balochistan Assembly approves Rs1.089tr budget for fiscal year 2026-27

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Sunday approved the Rs1.089 trillion budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, with the majority of the House voting in favor of both developmental and non-developmental expenditures.

The House approved 53 demands for grants worth Rs797.8088 billion under non-development expenditures, while 45 demands for grants amounting to Rs291 billion were sanctioned for development spending. The assembly also passed the Balochistan Finance Bill 2026.

The session, chaired by Speaker Captain (Retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began on Sunday. At the outset, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Zareen Magsi raised the issue of the kidnapping of two youths, including a Hindu youth, in Jhal Magsi and urged the government to take immediate steps for their recovery.

Responding to the point of order, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said such incidents were damaging Baloch traditions and values. He termed the abduction of two youths from the rest house of former chief minister Zulfiqar Ali Magsi as “shameful” and said the government was making efforts to ensure their safe recovery.

Later, Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani presented the 53 non-developmental and 45 developmental demands for grants, which were approved by a majority vote. Opposition members did not move any cut motions against the budgetary demands.

Following the budget’s approval, the assembly session was adjourned for 15 minutes, during which the chief minister signed the budget documents.

When the session resumed, Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani tabled the authenticated statements of the fiscal year 2026-27 and supplementary expenditures for the fiscal year 2025-26. He also presented the Balochistan Finance Bill 2026, which was taken up for consideration and subsequently passed by the House.
