Animals are an integral part of human life and the environment. However, some species may pose risks to humans under certain circumstances. However, attempts to eradicate any species through human activity can have adverse consequences for the entire ecosystem. As such, it is imperative that scientific and well-managed approaches be adopted to control the population of stray animals. Culling through poisoning or shooting is not a sustainable solution. Instead, proper planning, vaccination, sterilisation programmes and other preventive measures are essential. Similarly, discarding edible items that attract stray animals on roads, in residential areas and at public places should be avoided. Such practices increase the likelihood of accidents and other mishaps.
To raise awareness among the people, proper education and guidance are needed so that animals do not become a threat to humans. Humane treatment of animals is an essential aspect of a civilised society and courts have consistently condemned acts of cruelty and unnecessary violence against them.
