The upcoming monsoon season should serve as a timely reminder for both authorities and citizens to prepare for potential risks. Experts have reportedly cautioned about the likelihood of flashfloods and landslides in flood-prone and mountainous regions. Pakistan has repeatedly witnessed the devastating consequences of inadequate preparedness. Learning from past experiences, all relevant institutions must act without delay and implement practical safety measures before the monsoon season reaches its peak. Hazardous billboards should be removed, rooftop solar panel installations inspected, exposed electrical wiring secured and uncovered manholes identified and properly sealed. Drainage systems must also be cleaned and maintained to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of urban flooding.
