WANA: Tribal elders belonging to the nine Ahmadzai Wazir sub-tribes at a jirga here on Saturday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order in Lower South Waziristan and said the government was bound under the constitution to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
They were speaking at the Qaumi Amn Jirga, representing all nine sub-tribes of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe, which was held in Wana, the district headquarters of Lower South Waziristan.
The participants deliberated on the prevailing law and order, public grievances and the future course of action.
The jirga expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation, stating that members of Ahmadzai Wazir tribe were facing growing hardships due to lawlessness in the region.
Participants noted that following the merger of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the constitutional responsibility for protecting the lives and property of citizens rested with the state and the civil administration.
They urged the authorities to take practical measures to address public concerns and restore lasting peace.
Meanwhile, following the meeting, a delegation was constituted to hold talks with the district administration.
The delegation met Deputy Commissioner, Lower South Waziristan, Mussarrat Zaman, and District Police Officer Muhammad Tahir Shah Wazir at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Representatives of all nine Ahmadzai Wazir sub-tribes along with members of various segments of society, attended the meeting.
The delegation raised a number of issues, including the prevailing security situation, public concerns, protection of life, dignity and property, and restrictions on the movement of residents.
It particularly highlighted the hardships caused by barricades on the Azam Warsak Road and at other locations, urging the civil administration to take steps to facilitate the public and ensure close cooperation with local communities.
Welcoming the delegation, Deputy Commissioner Mussarrat Zaman said all stakeholders were committed to restoring peace, adding that the recent wave of insecurity had affected the entire district.
