Cop martyred, two traffic wardens injured in Lower Dir attacks

TIMERGARA: A police constable embraced martyrdom while two traffic wardens were injured in separate terrorist attacks in Lower Dir district, officials said on Wednesday.

Police officials said the first incident occurred at the police checkpost located on Badwan Bridge in Adenzai tehsil, where militants opened indiscriminate fire on cops. During the exchange of fire, they said, Constable Muhammad Ismail, a resident of Badwan, embraced martyrdom.

Sources said the exchange of fire continued for nearly an hour as security personnel bravely retaliated against the attackers. Following strong resistance from the police, the terrorists managed to flee the area.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene soon after the attack and launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to trace the assailants.In the second incident, two traffic wardens came under attack at Ghanam Shah Munda near the Bajaur Bypass within the jurisdiction of Munda Police Station. Traffic wardens Sajjad Khan and Syed Midraruddin were on duty when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them before fleeing the scene.
