Islamabad:Aurat Foundation has welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, calling it a major step towards regional and global peace, according to a press release.
After a meeting of its Executive Council, the foundation said this moment had been awaited by the world and by all peace-loving people. It added that the development showed reason still prevailed among global powers and the public, and that the world could be protected from threats if people remained united.
Aurat Foundation (AU) said people in Iran, including schoolgirls, infants and the country’s leadership, had endured great suffering during the recent war. It noted sacrifices on a scale not seen in the Middle East for a thousand years. “We bow our heads in reverence for the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Iranian people,” the statement said.
The foundation said lasting peace could be achieved only through dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect and adherence to international human rights. It added that people-to-people peace talks should also be pursued.
Aurat Foundation appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. It said their statesmanship and commitment to regional peace had helped secure a historic ceasefire when the world was on the brink of a third world war. Their role, it added, reflected Pakistan’s constructive contribution to international peace and stability.
The foundation expressed hope that the development would lead to greater global peace, security and cooperation. It said such efforts should create conditions for the protection of human rights and the wellbeing of all people, especially women, children and other vulnerable groups most affected by conflict.
Aurat Foundation expressed solidarity with all citizens affected by the conflict in Gulf countries and Lebanon, especially women, children and the elderly. It regretted the loss of human life.
