The Punjab Finance Bill 2026 reportedly proposes to make the electronic payment of property tax mandatory under the Punjab Urban Immovable Property Tax Act, 1958. This is a welcome proposal but it must also be ensured that the ‘challans’ are issued with a reasonable payment date.
Right now, challans are, on many occasions, received after the due date, forcing the receiver to get the PSID reissued after unnecessary visits to the excise and taxation office.
