As a computer science student, I am concerned about the rapid spread of manipulated videos, images and audio recordings on social media platforms. While AI offers numerous benefits, its misuse has become a serious challenge for society. Today, AI tools can create highly realistic videos and voice recordings that are difficult to distinguish from genuine content. Such material can be used to spread misinformation, damage reputations, influence public opinion, and create confusion during important national events. Many people unknowingly share fake content without verifying its authenticity, allowing false information to spread rapidly. Young social media users are particularly vulnerable because they consume large amounts of digital content every day.
The increasing accessibility of AI tools means that this problem is likely to grow in the coming years unless preventive measures are taken. I urge educational institutions, technology companies and government authorities to promote digital literacy and public awareness regarding deepfakes and online misinformation. Citizens should be encouraged to verify information before sharing it, while social media platforms must strengthen their detection systems.
