Finally, the much-awaited diplomatic breakthrough in the US-Israel war against Iran appears to have arrived. The agreement is set to reopen the strait of Hormuz and ease the pressure on the global energy markets. Both the US and Iran have also shown prudence to take up the persistent issue of the latter’s nuclear programme over the coming months so as not to torpedo a peace deal. This ceasefire could pave the way for a more permanent deal, but we could also get a temporary and fragile understanding that ensures peace during US President Trump’s current administration. Overall, it seems that Iran has gained more from this one-sided war than it expected, while the US has lost more than it feared.
