Social media has become an essential part of young people’s daily lives. These platforms offer many benefits, including access to educational content, career opportunities, skill development and instant communication. Students can learn new skills online, stay informed about current affairs and connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. However, the excessive use of social media is becoming a matter of concern. Many young people spend several hours on scrolling through social media feeds, often at the expense of their studies, physical activities and family interactions. As a student, I have observed that many of my peers find it difficult to concentrate on their academic responsibilities because of their dependence on social media and the fear of missing out on online trends.

While social media is a powerful tool, its benefits can only be fully realised when it is used responsibly. Parents, teachers, and educational institutions should work together to promote digital literacy and encourage healthy online habits among young people. Awareness campaigns, guidance sessions and balanced screen time practices can help young people to use social media productively.
