Murad calls for broadening tax base via technology

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday presided over a meeting on resource mobilisation and revenue enhancement, directing all revenue-generating provincial departments to strengthen collection mechanisms and improve fiscal efficiency to support the province’s development agenda.

During the meeting held at the CM House, Shah reviewed the performance of major revenue-generating provincial government departments, including the excise, taxation & narcotics control department; the Board of Revenue and the Sindh Revenue Board.

He stressed the importance of broadening the tax base, improving compliance, plugging revenue leaks, and leveraging technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in tax collection.

He said that strengthening provincial revenues is essential for financing public welfare initiatives, infrastructure development and the delivery of quality services to the people of Sindh. He directed the relevant departments to adopt innovative measures to generate revenue while ensuring that taxpayers are facilitated through transparent and business-friendly procedures.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing reforms aimed at modernising revenue administration and improving coordination among relevant departments. Officials briefed the CM on various initiatives being undertaken to enhance resource mobilisation and improve collection performance.

The CM emphasised that sustainable revenue growth and prudent financial management are critical for maintaining fiscal stability and supporting the government’s development priorities. He directed all departments to work with dedication and professionalism to achieve their revenue targets and contribute effectively to the province’s economic progress.

The participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment on the occasion to strengthening the revenue collection systems and implementing reforms to improve financial governance across the province.
