MANSEHRA: The tehsil administrations in Torghar on Monday staged rallies to sensitise people about wildfires as officials believed that the fires caused extensive damage to forests and wildlife.
“The incidents of wildfires increase during the summer season in Torghar and the rest of Hazara Division. People should remain cautious and avoid lighting fires, throwing cigarettes and inflammable materials in forests,” Torghar Additional Deputy Commissioner Safdar Azam Qureshi told a rally.
The rally, which started from the central offices of the administration, culminated at the same point after marching through various roads of the area.Participants carrying banners and placards inscribed with awareness slogans distributed pamphlets among residents.
Addressing the rally, Judbah Assistant Commissioner Fazlur Rehman, the district headquarters, said that the government was utilising available resources to contain wildfires across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Wildfires pose a threat to biodiversity. During such blazes, wildlife also suffers heavily, which is a great loss caused by those who fail to exercise caution while passing through forests,” he said.
Meanwhile, a rally was taken out in Kunder Hassanzai Tehsil of Torghar district.Participants from different parts of the tehsil attended the rally, which marched through various roads of the area.
They also raised slogans to create awareness among the public, saying that incidents of wildfires were increasing during the ongoing summer season in the district and other parts of Hazara Division.
“The indigenous communities should exhibit a sense of ownership and discourage people and visitors from carrying matchsticks and cigarettes through forests, as dry grass can catch fire rapidly,” Additional Assistant Commissioner Jamil Hussain Shah , told the participants.Pamphlets carrying instructions and relevant illustrations were also distributed among members of the local communities.
