PESHAWAR: Seven people were killed and 33 others injured in rain-related incidents across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said in a report.

The report said that incidents of roof and wall collapses occurred in several districts due to severe weather conditions, resulting in deaths of several people and injuries to dozens of others.

The deceased included children, men and women, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Most of the incidents were reported from Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra, where harsh weather damaged property.

Meanwhile, PDMA warned that recent rains combined with rising temperatures had increased the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and flash floods in the upper areas of the province.

The district administrations of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra have been directed to remain alert and take necessary measures to deal with any possible emergency.

The PDMA instructed relevant authorities to monitor vulnerable locations, issue timely warnings and ensure safe evacuation of residents from affected areas if required.

The public has been advised to avoid rivers, streams and fast-flowing water, and to take precautions.

Meanwhile, a severe heatwave continues to grip the provincial capital, creating difficulties for citizens and affecting routine activities. A noticeable decline in public movement has been observed on busy roads, markets and public places during afternoon hours due to extreme heat.

The situation has been aggravated by power outages and loadshedding in different areas. Residents, particularly those living in densely populated localities, have complained that prolonged electricity suspension has made it difficult to cope with the intense heat.

Citizens urged the relevant authorities to improve the electricity supply and take effective measures to provide relief amid the ongoing heatwave.
