MUZAFFARABAD: Activists of the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) opened fire on a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) in Rawalakot during protests, with more than 30 bullets striking the vehicle, reports Geo News quoting official sources.
The incident took place near the Eidgah area of Rawalakot, where miscreants associated with the banned outfit targeted the police APC. Sources said the armoured vehicle was hit by over 30 rounds, and bullet marks were clearly visible on its exterior.
According to sources, the attack followed threats of violence made in an audio message attributed to a leader of the banned organisation.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions following the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision last week to declare the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organisation.
Three days ago, authorities also restored 177 first information reports (FIRs) that had previously been withdrawn under an agreement with the group after officials said the organisation had violated the terms of the accord.
According to a notification issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Law and Justice Department, the restored cases relate to protest demonstrations and other activities linked to the group.
No casualties were reported in the latest firing incident, and authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the attack.
