LAHORE:On International Domestic Workers' Day, HomeNet Pakistan paid tribute to millions of domestic workers for their contribution to households and the national economy, while highlighting the challenges they continue to face, including low wages, excessive working hours, absence of formal contracts and limited social protection. The organisation noted that despite legislative progress in some provinces, a large number of domestic workers remain outside effective legal protection and are vulnerable to exploitation, violence, harassment and discrimination. It urged federal and provincial governments to ensure implementation of existing laws, enforce minimum wages, extend social security and health benefits, and establish effective complaint and grievance redress mechanisms.
