World Dengue Day: UHS students highlight various aspects of dengue fever

LAHORE:The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore observed World Dengue Day at its Jinnah Campus with a series of awareness activities, including a walk, scientific seminar, student presentations, documentaries and community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting dengue prevention and control.

The programme commenced with a dengue awareness walk attended by faculty members, students and staff, who pledged to play their role in eliminating mosquito breeding sites and spreading awareness about dengue prevention in their communities.

A scientific seminar followed, featuring presentations by Prof Haji Muhammad Shoaib, Prof Sidra Saleem, Prof Shah Jahan, Dr Usman Javed, Dr Gul Mahnoor, Dr Haris, Dr Yasin Abdullah and Dr Warda.

The speakers highlighted various aspects of dengue fever, including its transmission, diagnosis, treatment, management, prevention and the role of proper nutrition in recovery. Participants were also informed about exercises that can aid recovery and improve overall health.

The event showcased active participation from students of Allied Health Sciences and Pharm-D programmes. Students Taha, Laina, Rameen and Amna delivered short presentations emphasizing dengue prevention and public awareness.

Pharm-D students organised a number of educational activities. Fourth-semester students Sehrish, Kashaf, Kainat and Haram presented a documentary titled ‘Small bites, big threats’, highlighting the dangers posed by dengue-carrying mosquitoes and the importance of preventive measures. Bazif delivered a presentation providing a comprehensive overview of dengue fever, while Rashid presented a documentary on dengue awareness. Swebah spoke on the role of pharmacists in the prevention of dengue, emphasising the contribution of pharmacists in public education and disease prevention.
