LAHORE : The University of Okara (UO) has renamed its PhD Block as the Dr Senta Siller Block in recognition of the German artist, philosopher and anthropologist’s contributions to the empowerment of rural women in Okara.
The block was inaugurated by UO Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sajjad Mubin, accompanied by members of civil society and the university faculty. According to the university administration, the academic block was dedicated to Dr Siller in acknowledgement of her efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment through Thatta Kedona, an entrepreneurship initiative aimed at supporting rural women. She was recently honoured with the Sitara-i-Pakistan for her services.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Mubin said the promotion of women’s empowerment through quality and skill-based education remained a key component of the university’s vision, noting that around 70 per cent of UO students are female.
He said the decision to name the block after Dr Siller reflected the university’s commitment to recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to women’s development and social progress.
