ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, who has been nominated as Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, is awaiting his posting date.

According to sources, deliberations are underway regarding Tahir Andrabi’s successor as Foreign Office spokesperson. Among the names under consideration is Ayesha Ali, Additional Secretary for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Another strong contender is Dr Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, who recently completed his tenure in London and is awaiting a new assignment at the Foreign Office.

Sources say Dr Faisal could eventually become a candidate for the position of Foreign Secretary. However, the post requires a Grade-22 officer while Dr Faisal is currently serving in Grade 21. Therefore, he may have to wait before becoming eligible for the ministry’s highest-ranking position. Dr Mohammad Faisal previously served as Foreign Office spokesperson from 2017 to 2019.
