PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has proposed a significant enhancement in compensation for martyred and injured police personnel, aiming to address disparities with other provinces and boost the morale of officers engaged in the fight against terrorism.
According to an official letter sent by the Central Police Office (CPO) to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), the proposed package seeks improved financial support for the families of police martyrs and personnel injured in the line of duty.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed directed the preparation of a case for an increase in the overall package for martyrs and ghazis to boost the morale of the force and acknowledge their supreme sacrifices.
The letter to the government stated that the package for martyrs in KP is the lowest among all provinces despite the fact that the police force here faces greater challenges and threats. The summary noted that the KP Police has rendered unparalleled sacrifices in combating terrorism, with 2,386 police officials, from constables to additional inspectors general, having laid down their lives in the line of duty to maintain peace and stability in the province.
Under the proposed package, the existing compensation amounts for police martyrs would remain unchanged, ranging from Rs11 million for constables to inspectors, Rs16 million for DSPs and ASPs, and Rs21 million for officers from the rank of SP up to AIGP, IGP and above.
The Central Police Office has recommended replacing the allotment of plots with financial assistance for the purchase of houses for the families of fallen police personnel. If the recommendation is approved, families of martyred personnel would receive financial assistance according to rank, including Rs18 million for constables and head constables, Rs25 million for ASIs, SIs and inspectors, Rs35 million for DSPs and ASPs, and Rs70 million for SSPs and above. The family would be allowed to select an area and location for the house near their place of residence, after which the DPO and RPO would forward the case to the CPO for approval.
