HARIPUR: Two policemen demoted to lower ranks for allegedly subjecting a man to torture and extortion, an order issued from the office of the district police officer said on Thursday. A few days back, Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Ladha village, had, through a video message, accused Head Constable Adeel Ahmed Khan and Head Constable Muhammad Umair, posted at Jhari Kass police post, of subjecting him to torture and extortion over his refusal to strike a compromise with his rivals in a court case.
When the video went viral, the District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur ordered a departmental inquiry into the complaint. The Sub Divisional Police Officer, Khanpur, Raja Muhammad Bashir, was appointed inquiry officer.
According to findings of the departmental inquiry, both the head constables were found guilty of gross negligence, sheer indiscipline, and complete disregard for official responsibilities and departmental misconduct in terms of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Rules 1974 (amended 2014).
