NOWSHERA: Police on Thursday arrested three security guards of Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex on the charges of attempting to sexually assault a woman who was at the hospital to care for her ailing husband.

The security guards were employed by a private security company at the district’s largest healthcare facility.According to police, the complainant, Tahira, a resident of Dag Ismailkhel, stated in her complaint that her husband was admitted to Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex, and she was staying at the hospital as his attendant.

The woman told police that at around 9 pm on June 8, she left the hospital to buy food for her husband. However, after finding the nearby tandoor closed, she purchased biscuits and, while returning to the hospital, lost her way.

According to the complainant, she sought directions from a security guard who allegedly offered assistance and took her to a room.She alleged that once inside, the guard telephoned someone and instructed them to switch off the cameras before subjecting her to indecent acts.

The first information report stated that two more men later entered the room and allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman.The complainant said she put up strong resistance and raised an alarm. She subsequently managed to escape from the room.

Acting on the complaint, Nowshera Kalaan Police registered a case and arrested the three suspects identified as Umair, son of Paiyo Shah, a resident of Khandar; Nadeem Khan, son of Khan Gul, a resident of Kachkolabad; and Abbas, son of Fakhr-us-Salam, a resident of Kabul River area.

Meanwhile, hospital spokesman Mian Kaseer Kakakhel said the hospital administration had not received any written complaint about the incident. However, he confirmed that the complainant had lodged a complaint with the in-charge of the private security company.

He said the hospital administration had constituted a committee to conduct a transparent investigation into the matter, while the three security guards concerned had been dismissed from service.

The spokesman assured that the inquiry committee would carry out a comprehensive and impartial investigation and submit its report, after which action would be taken against those found responsible in accordance with the law and relevant regulations.
