KARACHI: The central bank has launched its inaugural research agenda for 2026-2029, reflecting its priorities in an evolving global and domestic economic landscape characterised by rapid technological advancements, recurring supply shocks, climate change, and persistent structural challenges, it said on Thursday.

In line with the State Bank of Pakistan’s statutory objectives and the SBP Vision 2028, the agenda provides a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the analytical underpinnings of the central bank's policy formulation and regulatory design, the bank said in the statement.

The research agenda is systematically organised around three strategic core themes, ie, inflation dynamics and monetary policy; financial sector deepening, soundness, and efficiency; and structural transformation and economic development. Around these broader themes, the agenda for the next three years is aimed at addressing existing research gaps and facilitating informed macroeconomic policymaking. This also highlights the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in addressing emerging economic and financial sector challenges.

As part of undertaking research outlined in the Agenda, the SBP aims to actively engage and collaborate with academics, policy researchers, government bodies, and other external stakeholders at both individual and institutional levels.
