A teenaged woman, who got married four months ago, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances, according to Surjani Town police officials. Her body was found at a house near the Saif Al-Marri Goth Zaitoon Foundation.

Police took the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased was identified as Misbah, 18. According to her mother, Misbah was the only sister of five brothers and her father had passed away.

The mother said that until some time ago, they had been living in New Karachi, where Misbah was ensnared in love by a man named Shehryar, a resident of the same area, and a few days before Ramazan, the two eloped and got married.

The mother said that shortly after the marriage, Shehryar started beating Misbah and making various demands of her, adding that according to Misbah, Shehryar had told her that he was a policeman.

Misbah claimed seeing Shehryar’s picture in a police uniform, but she said he used to stay at home all day, and whenever he went out for a short while, he would return with Rs10,000 to Rs15,000.

The mother said Shehryar used to beat Misbah and also message her on WhatsApp that if she complained to anyone, he would enter her house and kill her too. She said she also has Shehryar’s voice message in which he abused her and threatened to kill her, adding that one day Shehryar had entered their house with a few people to abuse them and threaten them with serious consequences.

Misbah’s brother Usman said his sister had told him that she lived in a flat opposite the Malir City police station, and that she must avoid her family because Shehryar was a very cruel man, and before her he had married four women whose fathers had died, then left them after robbing them.

Usman said that on his sister’s advice, the family distanced itself from her. Two days ago a famous food vendor from Misbah’s area called them to say she was found seriously injured under his food cart.

The brother said his mother was so scared of Shehryar that she refused to go to Malir and told the food vendor to just leave her, following which the food vendor left Misbah near the DA of Surjani Town.

The mother said she took Misbah to the Surjani Town police station, but the police officials there did not listen to her and told them to go to Malir because the case fell in their jurisdiction. From there Misbah went to a private hospital in Khuda Ki Basti, where the doctor gave her some medicine.

When the mother cleaned the wound on Misbah’s head, she found some tea leaves in it. Misbah said Shehryar had put a bandage on her head before filling the wound with salt and tea leaves. She said he had also tortured her on different parts of her body.

The mother said that at 1am on Monday Misbah had gone to the toilet, where she fell, but when she was brought back to the room she was dead.

Police, however, claimed that Misbah had died before 1am but her mother had not told anyone. After someone informed the police at 15, they arrived on the scene, but the mother refused to let them take the body to the hospital.

After some struggle, the police managed to bring the body to the hospital, but then the mother kept refusing to allow a post-mortem examination, and she also does not want to take any legal action.

Surjani SHO Sohail Khaskheli said the body apparently showed no signs of violence. He said the husband of the deceased is not a policeman, adding that the case would move further after the registration of a case once the autopsy report is released.
