Every weekend, Karachi’s busy streets turn into dangerous stunt tracks. All too often, this ends in severe injuries or the tragic loss of young lives. While it is easy to blame the traffic police for poor enforcement, the real issue lies closer to home. The core of the problem, in my opinion, is parental responsibility. Many parents willingly hand over motorcycle keys to underage children and ignore the dangerous modifications made to the bikes.
It is heartbreaking to see parents mourn a child when the tragedy could have been prevented by simple supervision and just saying ‘no’. Giving an un-licenced teenager a motorcycle without strict boundaries is like putting a weapon in their hands. We need an urgent wake-up call. Parents must monitor their children, refuse to fund bike modifications and ensure they never ride without a helmet and a valid licence.
