Habib University held its ninth convocation ceremony, conferring degrees upon 276 graduates — the largest graduating class in the institution’s history.

The ceremony brought together graduates, their families, faculty members, and distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of a university that, over the past eleven years, has established itself as a distinctive model of higher education in Pakistan.

The event was attended by Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Jameel Ahmad, Habib University Chancellor Muhammad H. Habib, Chairman Board of Governors Mohomed Bashir, members of the Board of Governors, and other prominent guests.

The Class of 2026 reflected the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The graduates came from 11 cities across Pakistan and abroad, with a near-equal gender balance of 50.4 percent women and 49.6 percent men. Notably, 85 percent of the graduates completed their education through scholarships or financial aid, made possible by the support of the university’s benefactors, known as Mohsineen.

Delivering the valedictory address, Syed Shaheer Abbas Rizvi of the Electrical Engineering programme highlighted the value of friendship, perseverance, and holistic learning experienced by the graduating class.

“The difference between those who do and those who do not is never talent; it is initiative,” he said, urging graduates to use their education to create opportunities for others and embrace challenges with resilience.

Addressing the ceremony, Nehal Hashmi said the graduates were leaving the university with not only academic qualifications but also the responsibility of contributing to Pakistan’s future.

“Today’s graduates leave with more than degrees; they leave with the responsibility and privilege of shaping this nation’s future. Their education has prepared them to become credible ambassadors for Pakistan,” he said.

Habib University President Wasif Rizvi encouraged graduates to remain grounded in humility and purpose despite living in an era dominated by self-promotion and curated identities. Referring to the university’s philosophy of Yohsin and Tawazu, he described humility as an essential foundation for learning and intellectual growth.

“Tawazu is not weakness; it is the instrument of intellect. Treat knowledge as a trust, not a credential. Let your life be defined not by what you accumulate, but by what you contribute and repair,” he said.

Chancellor Muhammad H. Habib emphasized the importance of love for the country, respect for diversity, and meaningful human connections. He urged graduates to use their education with wisdom and courage in service of society.

Governor State Bank of Pakistan Jameel Ahmad spoke about the economic challenges facing the country and called upon graduates to apply innovation and creativity to address national issues.

“The solutions to Pakistan’s challenges will not come from conventional thinking. You have the advantage of being educated differently. Use technology and the digital economy to help shape a better future for the country,” he said.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of degrees and a celebration of the achievements of the graduating class, marking another milestone in Habib University’s commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, and social impact.
