ISLAMABAD: The government trimmed petrol prices by 4 rupees per litre Friday while leaving diesel unchanged, the fourth consecutive week the government has passed on relief to consumers as global crude extended decline.

Effective June 6, Motor Spirit (petrol) will retail at 377.78 rupees per litre, down from 381.78, according to a Petroleum Division notification. High Speed Diesel holds at 380.78 rupees per litre. The modest cut follows sharper reductions the previous week, when the government slashed both petrol and diesel prices by 22 rupees per litre each, one of the steeper weekly adjustments in recent weeks.

The decision tracks a softening international market, where Brent crude futures fell roughly 2.2 percent Friday to around $92.82 a barrel for the active August contract. It gave the government fiscal room to ease pump prices.
