LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Board of Revenue (BoR) Punjab have recovered 25,444 kanals of state land worth approximately Rs433 billion from illegal occupation during 2025-26, officials announced at a joint press conference on Friday. The large-scale operation, launched in September 2025, involved verification of revenue records, land demarcation and coordinated enforcement actions across multiple districts of Punjab. Officials termed it one of the largest land recovery drives in the province’s history, underscoring close institutional coordination between NAB Lahore and BoR.
The campaign was conducted under the leadership of NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt, Director General NAB Lahore Mirza Faran Baig and Senior Member Board of Revenue Punjab Nabeel Javed. The recovered properties include high-value agricultural and commercial land restored to state ownership.
To sustain the drive, the Punjab government has established a Punjab State Assets Task Force mandated to retrieve illegally occupied land and ensure its transparent and documented disposal in collaboration with BoR. The task force will follow auditable procedures to safeguard public assets. Officials urged citizens to report illegal occupation of state land through the official complaint management portal, assuring prompt action and transparency in handling recovered properties.
The briefing also highlighted reforms introduced by BoR, including full recovery of Rs9.97 billion in agricultural income tax, digitization of millions of land records and implementation of GIS-based property certification systems to enhance transparency and governance.
NAB, meanwhile, reported key accountability initiatives such as increased recoveries, facilitation measures, digitisation of case management systems and introduction of AI-driven investigations to improve efficiency and transparency. Both institutions reiterated their commitment to safeguarding state land, strengthening accountability mechanisms and ensuring the transparent utilisation of public assets for the benefit of the people of Punjab.
