GILGIT: A significant increase in water flow has been reported in Hispar-Hopper Glacier region due to accelerated glacier melting, prompting authorities to issue an alert and closely monitor the situation.

According to officials, a sudden rise in water level of the river flowing through the Hispar-Hopper area has raised concerns about potential risks to downstream communities. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said it is fully aware of the situation and is continuously monitoring developments.

The NDMA has directed the local administration to take precautionary measures to protect communities living along the riverbanks. Authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure adequate safety arrangements in vulnerable areas.

Residents of several locations in Gilgit District, including Juglot, Rahimabad, Nomal, Jutal, Juglot Colony, and Chilmash, have been advised to exercise caution due to possible fluctuations in water levels. Travelers passing through the region have also been urged to take necessary safety precautions. Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and that additional measures will be taken, if necessary, to protect lives and property.
