KARACHI: The Karachi police have intensified preparations to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram across the metropolis, with a high-level meeting held at the Karachi Police Office under the chairmanship of Additional Inspector General Karachi Azad Khan.
Officials said the meeting was attended by Karachi Range DIGs, the DIG Traffic, district SSPs, prominent Fiqh Jafariya scholars, organizers of Majalis and processions, and other senior officials. The participants reviewed comprehensive security arrangements, traffic management plans, and administrative matters related to Muharram.
During the meeting, a detailed assessment of existing security measures and traffic control strategies was carried out. Religious scholars and procession organizers appreciated the efforts of Karachi Police in maintaining security and managing traffic during Muharram in previous years. They also presented several suggestions aimed at further improving arrangements for this year’s observances.
Participants highlighted a number of issues, including entry and exit points for processions, issuance of procession permits and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), road repairs, encroachments along procession routes, traffic management, and power outages.
Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan listened to the concerns and assured participants that all issues would be addressed on a priority basis. He directed police officers to coordinate closely with the civil administration to resolve identified problems before the start of Muharram.
He emphasized the effective implementation of security plans while ensuring that the process for issuing NOCs and permits for religious gatherings remains practical and efficient.
Azad Khan further instructed law enforcement officials to make security arrangements foolproof and maintain strict vigilance against terrorism and other criminal activities. He stressed that legal action should be taken against any elements attempting to disrupt peace and order. Special attention was also directed towards the security of religious scholars and key organizers. The additional IG underscored the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the city during Muharram.
