SWABI: The police have arrested three persons, including the mother and grandfather of a 12-year old girl, for allegedly selling her for Rs50,000 and recovered the child safely, officials said on Thursday.
District Police Officer (DPO), Swabi, Waqas Rafiq said that the Chota Lahor Police conducted a raid at the residence of Ayaz Khan and arrested three accused allegedly involved in selling 12-year old Sania, the daughter of Ayaz Khan, to a man from Punjab.
The arrested accused were identified as the girl’s mother, Tanzeem Bibi, her grandfather, Said Kamal, both residents of Chota Lahor, and the alleged buyer, Manzar Abbas, a resident of Latifwal in Chakwal district.
According to police, the complainant, Haris Khan, a relative of Ayaz Khan, informed authorities that the minor girl had been left in his care by her father. However, on the day of the incident, the girl’s mother took her away from the house. It was later discovered that the child had allegedly been sold for Rs50,000.Preliminary investigations revealed that after receiving the money, the accused had also arranged the marriage of the minor girl.
