LAHORE:A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infectious Diseases, Dengue and Disaster Management was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir to review the dengue situation across Punjab and assess ongoing prevention and control measures.

During the meeting, the committee decided to involve university and college students in anti-dengue campaigns to enhance public participation and improve human resource management during the dengue season. Citizens were also urged to actively contribute to prevention efforts as part of their social responsibility.

Addressing the participants, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique described dengue as a societal challenge that requires collective action. He said effective control of the disease depends on vigilance, public awareness and coordinated efforts by all stakeholders.

He directed authorities to immediately launch anti-dengue activities in high-risk districts and focus special attention on areas reporting dengue cases. Stressing the importance of field operations, he called for enhanced surveillance and monitoring mechanisms to identify potential breeding sites and prevent outbreaks.

The minister warned that fake reporting and bogus field performance would not be tolerated and directed officials to ensure transparency and accountability in surveillance activities. Provincial Minister for Health and Population Khawaja Imran Nazir instructed all relevant departments to work in close coordination with district administrations. He directed health CEOs to maintain regular communication with local authorities and continue anti-dengue operations on an emergency basis. The minister also directed cooperative housing societies to monitor dengue-related conditions within their jurisdictions. He asked commissioners and deputy commissioners to personally supervise larva detection activities.

Meanwhile, another meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khawaja Salman Rafique regarding the ongoing development schemes of ADP 2026-2025.

During the meeting, a detailed review of the ongoing development schemes was taken. The development schemes include construction of an airstrip in Bhakkar district, establishment of town rescue stations in South and North, expansion of emergency services and other schemes.
