ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday wrote to the Ministry of Interior and Islamabad chief commissioner regarding non-compliance with the timeframe for sharing key data with the electoral body, which is necessary to start delimitation for local government (LG) polls.
The authorities have been given another three days to complete the required actions to initiate the delimitation exercise, paving the way for the conduct of LG elections in the federal capital. The term of the previous LG institutions ended in February 2021.
According to ECP sources, the interior secretary and ict chief commissioner have been addressed in the letter, drawing their attention to a meeting held at the Election Commissioner Secretariat on May 13. The minutes of that meeting were circulated for implementation and necessary action.
A ten-day timeframe had been given for the provision of: notifications of the limits of Town Corporations, notifications of the number of Union Councils in each Town Corporation, and authenticated and updated maps of Town Corporations showing census charges, circles and blocks.
