NOWSHERA: Police have arrested a man on charges of leveling accusations of immoral activities against professors and the administration of Government Postgraduate College Nowshera Cantt, issuing threats of serious consequences, and damaging the institution’s reputation while standing at Shobra Chowk in Nowshera.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the college principal, Nowshera Cantt police registered a case against the accused, identified as Waheed Hayat alias Wakeel, under sections 500, 505, and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code and took him into custody the day before Edul Azha.

Meanwhile, a joint investigation committee formed to probe the alleged harassment case involving female students at Government Postgraduate College Nowshera Cantt, in its preliminary report, declared most of the allegations circulating on social media as unverified.

According to the report, the WhatsApp number attributed to an anonymous female student was found to be in use by a male resident of another province, while Waheed Hayat alias Wakeel, also failed to provide any concrete evidence during the investigation. The committee, headed by Additional DC Ijaz Akhtar, conducted a forensic review of CCTV footage, WhatsApp chats, and other digital evidence.

The report stated that the unverified allegations had damaged the institution’s reputation and created anxiety among students and parents. The investigation committee recommended referring the matter to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency for further inquiry.

The committee raised questions over the performance of the college administration and the anti-harassment committee, holding the principal responsible for weak oversight, while recommending departmental action against two lecturers.
