Police have arrested a man who allegedly killed his sister and brother-in-law over honour in Saudabad within 24 hours after the firing incident.
Police said on Tuesday that the suspect was arrested within the limits of the Sachal police station after investigations into the double murder that took place on Monday in Saudabad. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to murdering his sister and her husband, revealing details that pointed to financial and social pressure behind the killings.
Police said the accused told the investigators that his sister had earlier been engaged to a man identified as Gopang for Rs350,000. However, the woman later chose to marry a man of her own choice, which reportedly led to tensions between the families.
In his statement, the accused claimed that after the marriage, Gopang began demanding the return of the engagement money. According to police sources, the suspect further alleged that threats were made against his sister if the amount was not returned.
The pressure surrounding the issue allegedly escalated over time, ultimately leading to him shooting his sister and her husband dead. Investigators said they were also probing the possible involvement of Gopang in the crime. Sources claimed that at the time of the murder, the motorcycle used in the incident was being driven by Gopang, suggesting that he may have played an active role in facilitating the killings. Further investigations are under way.
