KARAHCI: Sindh Rangers and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police conducted a joint intelligence-based operation in PIB Colony on Monday against suspects linked to the Ahmed Ali Magsi and Waqas gang, arresting five members of the group, including two who were injured during the encounter.

The operation was launched after credible intelligence regarding the gang’s involvement in extortion activities in PIB Colony and nearby areas. During the raid, suspects allegedly opened fire on law enforcement personnel in an attempt to resist arrest. Rangers and police retaliated, resulting in two most-wanted suspects, identified as Abdullah and Abdul Sami, sustaining injuries in the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, three other suspects — Hameed alias Khalifa, Obaid alias Gaji, and Khuda Bakhsh alias Sunni — were arrested without resistance. Law enforcement officials also recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

Authorities said the arrested individuals were key operatives of the Magsi and Waqas gang, which was allegedly running an organised extortion network in PIB Colony from undisclosed locations. Officials further claimed that the gang leaders were currently in hiding while continuing to manage criminal activities remotely.

Investigators revealed that the group had allegedly been involved in extortion targeting factory owners, private builders, and businessmen in PIB Colony and adjoining areas. The suspects were accused of collecting “protection money” on instructions from gang leaders and using threats, firing incidents, and intimidation tactics to spread fear.

Officials added that the arrested suspects were habitual offenders with prior criminal records. Raids were ongoing to arrest remaining accomplices, while the arrested suspects along with recovered weapons and ammunition have been handed over to SIU police for further legal proceedings.

The Rangers spokesperson urged citizens to report criminal elements via the nearest Rangers check post, Helpline 1101, or Madadgar WhatsApp 03479001111, assuring confidentiality of informants’ identities.
