KARACHI: Sindh Food Minister Makhdum Mehboobuz Zaman on Monday directed the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) to further intensify inspection activities across the province on the occasion of Eidul Azha to ensure effective arrangements based on food safety, cleanliness and basic hygiene principles.

He said the provision of safe, quality and healthy food to citizens must be ensured under all circumstances, while all relevant officers and teams should remain fully active for immediate redressal of public complaints related to food during the Eid days.

The provincial minister instructed food safety officers, focal persons and special task teams of the Sindh Food Authority to strictly monitor the preparation and sale points of hotels, bakeries, milk, ice, spices and other food items so that the supply of clean and safe food to citizens could be guaranteed.

He said that there would be no compromise on cleanliness, hygiene and food safety principles during the Eid, and strict action would be taken against those involved in selling substandard and harmful food items. He further directed the authorities to ensure immediate response as soon as public complaints are received and on-spot action must be taken.

Zaman urged citizens to fully cooperate with municipal administration in the proper and safe disposal of sacrificial waste, blood and other remains after Eidul Azha to avoid bad smell, environmental pollution or health hazards. He said that waste and offal can lead to the spread of germs, flies and mosquitoes which may cause serious diseases as they transmit bacteria to food.

He further stated that the SFA staff will remain fully available during the holidays and citizens can register food-related complaints on helpline number 02199336112.
