LAHORE:The 53rd meeting of the Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order was held at the Punjab Home Department to review the overall security situation in the province and finalise arrangements ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and Muharram.
Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee Khawaja Salman Rafique attended the meeting along with Provincial Minister and Co-Chairman Bilal Yaseen while Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar Khan participated through video link.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi briefed the committee on the prevailing law and order situation across the province.The committee directed authorities to upgrade security at all places of worship and sensitive installations throughout the province. The committee instructed officials to enhance security at inter-provincial border check posts and reviewed security measures for the Pak-Australia ODI matches.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman said a comprehensive review of the latest law and order situation in Punjab was undertaken during the meeting. He directed authorities to ensure strict monitoring of Fourth Schedule individuals and suspicious elements across the province.
He also instructed all districts to convene District Intelligence Committee meetings regarding Eid-ul-Azha security arrangements and emphasised strict implementation of security guidelines issued by the Home Department. “Law enforcement agencies are making all-out efforts to maintain peace across Punjab,” he said, adding that banned organisations would not be allowed to collect sacrificial animal hides in the province.
Bilal Akbar Khan said maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the Punjab government’s top priority. Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi informed the meeting that 38,507 Eid congregations would be held across Punjab, for which foolproof security arrangements had been ordered.
